Non-Neoplastic and Indeterminate Thyroid Lesions

چکیده
Non-neoplastic thyroid lesions include nodules with nondiagnostic cytology and those benign cytology. In approximately 15% of cases, fine-needle aspiration (FNAC) results in cytologically inadequate specimens. Nondiagnostic smears have an number cells to allow a diagnosis. This category also includes cystic lesions, which are frequent cause results. Benign diagnosis represents the most result following FNAC, rate 70%. The common macrofollicular or adenomatoid/hyperplastic nodules, colloid adenomas, nodular goiter, lymphocytic granulomatous thyroiditis. risk malignancy these two cytological categories is 1–4% 0–3%, respectively. management generally conservative. about 20–25% FNAC leads indeterminate nodule. clinical issue, since malignancy, although relatively low (up 30%), cannot be ruled out certainty. When indicated, surgery has diagnostic rather than therapeutic purpose, almost 80% procedures being unnecessary. this regard, it important emphasize that thyroidectomy can lead serious complications. For reasons, there increased emphasis on assessing minimize unnecessary surgical procedures.

Rare thyroid non-neoplastic diseases
Rare diseases are usually defined as entities affecting less than 1 person per 2,000. About 7,000 different rare entities are distinguished and, among them, rare diseases of the thyroid gland. Although not frequent, they can be found in the everyday practice of endocrinologists and should be considered in differential diagnosis. Rare non-neoplastic thyroid diseases will be discussed. Congenital...
متن کاملNon-neoplastic lesions of the ovary review
Ovary is an important organ as it is concerned with the production of progeny. commonest site of neoplastic and non age group and accounts for the most prevalent cause of hospital admissions. lesions are classified as inflammatory (infectious and non non-cystic) and pregnancy related disorders.
متن کاملInvestigation of heavy trace elements in neoplastic and non-neoplastic human thyroid tissue: A study by proton-induced X-ray emissions.
Background: Within the context of developing techniques to facilitate the diagnosis of the thyroid diseases, the elemental composition of pathological thyroid tissue (neoplastic and non-neoplastic) was investigated by proton induced X-ray emission. The PIXE has been widely used as a sensitive technique for trace elemental analysis in both biological and medical fields. Materials and Methods: Th...
متن کاملThyroid Nodules with Indeterminate Cytology
To the Editor: Alexander et al. (Aug. 23 issue)1 report findings from a prospective, multicenter gene-expression classifier validation study that raises several questions. For the 265 indeterminate fine-needle aspirates they tested, the geneexpression classifier had a sensitivity of 92%, a specificity of 52%, a positive predictive value of 47%, and a negative predictive value of 93%. Why the ob...
متن کاملIndeterminate liver lesions in cancer
It is important to distinguish liver metastases from incidental benign liver lesions which may be present in patients with cancer. In a minority of cases, sonography or CT may be sufficient to characterise benign lesions, but the range of sequences and contrast media available for liver MRI provides the opportunity for more specific diagnosis in the great majority of cases. Biopsy is rarely nee...
